BIOGRAPHY

Adam Levy was elected Putnam County District Attorney in November 2007.  He started his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.

Levy's "without fear or favor" approach to crime fighting focused on investigating and prosecuting crimes committed against women and children.  In addition to his full workload that included the prosecution of felony cases in county court, Levy took-on the additional responsibility of prosecuting child abusers in the Suffolk County Family Court.  He became known as a voice for those victims who were too afraid to come forward, or too young to understand.  The experience shaped the type of attorney Adam Levy would become.

In 1996, Levy moved to Putnam County and started practicing law in a small Carmel-based law firm.  Then in 1999, he started his own firm and handled criminal and family law cases throughout the 9th Judicial District.

Because of his steadfast determination to ensure that justice prevailed for those he represented, his law firm flourished.

Levy's zealous advocacy for a child's right to feel safe and loved by both parents established the foundation of his law practice, as well as his reputation in the legal community.
After taking office as Putnam County District Attorney in January 2008, Levy immediately implemented new and innovative programs to address the increase in the crimes of driving while intoxicated, domestic violence and drug-related offenses.  Levy initiated sweeping changes in the Putnam County Treatment Court program to reduce the rate of recidivism among those convicted of alcohol and drug related offenses.  Levy also implemented Putnam County's first program to videotape statements of those charged with violent criminal offenses to ensure that violent offenders are brought to justice.

In his first year as District Attorney, Adam worked tirelessly with the Office of Court Administration and the mental health community to begin the Putnam County Mental Health Court.  Plus, he paid special attention to the specific needs of Putnam County seniors who are often targeted by scam artists who view them as easy targets.

DA Levy takes time to meet with and offer advice to the county's teenagers who are faced with daily dilemmas including peer pressure, bullying, alcohol abuse and drug dependency.  DA Levy is a frequent lecturer to local and state law enforcement agencies, and helps train law enforcement personnel on criminal procedure and legal practice.

In short, Adam Levy is a hands-on District Attorney who thoroughly enjoys the work of the D.A.'s office.  He weaves together his real-life experiences in both private practice and civil service to improve the quality of criminal prosecution in Putnam County.
