Putnam County District Attorney Adam Levy
Prosecuting Without Fear or Favor Since 2008
The fair and impartial administration of justice is the bedrock of this office.
The office of the Putnam County District Attorney continues to strive for excellence by upholding the public’s trust in the pursuit of justice and the equal enforcement of the law.
D.A. Levy and his staff accomplish their mission each day by prosecuting cases without fear or favor – because in Putnam County no one is above the law and no one is below its protections.
“As the designated driver, Michael Skalaski had no business smoking pot and drinking alcohol before getting behind the wheel of his 4,000 pound vehicle,” said District Attorney Adam Levy. “The choices he made put in motion a series of events that were both foreseeable and preventable and it is because of those choices that he will spend up to 4 ½ years in prison.”
Levy said the indictment comes following a lengthy and extensive multi-agency investigation. Assistant District Attorney Laura Roberts led the investigation for the Putnam County District Attorney’s Office, in cooperation with Team Leader and Forensic Tax Auditor William Welch, Forensic Tax Auditor Erik Jonisz, and Investigator Russell Smith from the Department of Taxation and Finance, and the New York State Police.
“What this woman and her family endured is unimaginable, and she showed immense bravery in pursuing this case despite serious threats to herself and her family. She should be commended” District Attorney Adam Levy said.
